Replied Mar 01 Some software will not allow connection to higher COM port numbers. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. I also got Microsoft on the phone and the tech there got exactly the same problem.
When I look at mycomputer - properties - Device manager there is nothing about Silicon labs in the Ports setting. Then I plug in the USB cable and after a few minutes the device installation fails with a message it cannot find the driver files.
I have done some more troubleshooting. Its hard to say where the wheels came off the bus I don't know the Silicon Labs stuff well enough to comment and again I get bounced right back to Silabs.
