You might want to put down that burger and drive to your nearest camera store to check out the Coolpix P Unavoidable perhaps, but it certainly explains the focusing problems we had with the telephoto converter in low light situations. Note that you'll need a "smart" slave trigger though, or the remote coolpi would fire on the P's metering flash, rather than the exposure itself.
Sometimes my preference has to do with the camera design. In the shot below, it failed to record the music I heard loudly and distinctly accompanying a dancing pirate. Much more so than the in-camera noise reduction which showed little difference.
Specifically, two series of 8MP images. I didn't even need the manual to figure out the buttons. The internal memory is only good for a few shots at the highest resolution settings, so plan on acquiring one or two cards to give you an adequate shooting capacity.
